Alternative Flu and Cold Treatments

If you feel you're coming down with a cold or flu, you might want to google alternative treatments. With bird flu coming, you want to have some capacity to address it yourself, especially if it is a pandemic as doctors may be too overwhelmed with victims to even see you.

I had the flu this past weekend and tried garlic and apples. I eat the garlic raw after crushing it, letting it sit for ten minutes to form the allicin and then smothering it with olive oil so its tolerable to swallow.

I also tried two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar diluted in a cup of hot water with honey. This is acidic to the teeth, so use a straw so it doesn't get on them. I did this after already substantially recovering, so am not sure how helpful it was.

I did wake up with zero congestion the next morning though, which is unusual for me. Usually have it for days and days after a cold or flu.

Just found out about 3% hydrogen peroxide and its many supposed uses. People put it in their ears and nasal cavities and gargle with it when they feel a cold coming on with good results according to anecdotal stuff on the web. Will give it a shot next time.

Enjoy it While You've Got It

Inscription on Brandon Lee's grave stone:

"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless."

I Used To Believe...

One of my favorite sites. Simply hilarious and utterly familiar.

I used to think Mrs U was fat because she never went to the bathroom! She and her whole family were so great to us; I'll never forget her.

I used to think that all dads were named Donald. Can you blame me? That's my dad's name and Mr. U and Mr. Bunch on Arch Street both had that name too.

Don't Sell Anyone Short

A great story. Nobody knows what anyone can really do. So don't yours or anyone else's preconceived notions limit you.

Are you a State Farm Customer?

If so, you can use TurboTax for FREE! Just go to the State Farm website, register, make one of your accounts accessible on the web site, and within a couple of hours, a link will appear on the left hand side of the "My Accounts" page. Click it and you are taken to the Turbotax site and don't get charged.

It worked for me even though I had completed my return already. When I got to the "Enter Promotion Code", I googled around and found the State Farm deal.

I just saved meself a nice trip to Whole Foods!
